Quelques échanges de mail pour les 19 ans du ZR-1 Net mail list service et un peu de nostalgies et d'histoire.
Si il y a des courageux pour traduire qu'ils n'hésitent pas. Merci.

I love stories like this. It's what the ZR-1 Net was originally all about.
With less than 6000 cars we're spread pretty thin around the world.

Amazing how the internet makes the world feel that much smaller.

Thank you Roland.

Mom

Thanks to you David.

When I bought my nearly brand new ZR-1 White 1992 #214 in 1997 in France, I was nearly alone here in this country and I did not know other ZR-1 owner.
Having all the information and potential support from the ZR-1 Net made me feel much more confortable.
I still enjoy my car after all the years and 80 000 miles added. Never had trouble.
I learned a lot from the ZR-1 Net. Thanks again Mom.

Roland

All,

As many of you know the ZR-1 Net, this list service, not the club has been around almost 19 years.

Over those years the Net and members have done a lot of things that they can and should be proud of especially supporting members in need.

I thought I would put together while I still have some memory, a history of some of the things this Net has done.

Thanks!

Seems to me it had something to do with Larry's first ZR-1 having a paint
job he was not satisfied with - where the story goes from there ? LFINO

Very good Glenn, and yes I have every newsletter. The first one was very
small and basically said the Registry's mission was to accumulate owner's
info and that it would be shared with the members. Of course that never
happened, in fact, after Larry died I asked if I could get the info so we
could keep the history of our vehicles intact, and I was told "everything
was thrown in the dumpster."

It was a funny thing. Like Dean, I found the Registry advertisement
mentioned in a Corvette magazine, and sent in my money to join. Takes longer
for the mail to get to NY than Dean's IL so I was #21. Soon Larry and I
became good friends, as good as a Californian and a Long Islander could be I
spose. Bad)

At first, he actually started the Registry to threaten GM. Somehow he had a
paint issue with his 1990 Z. I never knew what it was or why he didn't see
it before buying it but none the less, he went to GM about it and they had a
dealership repair it. IN the meantime, he wondered how many other ZR-1
owners had problems, after all, this was a special car and therefore, the
owners should be shown favoritism, right? Bad) He cleverly put out the ad to
learn where other owner's were.

Well, after the dealer finished the paint repair, Larry refused to accept
the final result and demanded (then) that it be taken to Bowling Green for
the plant to "do it right". GM responded that they did not return cars to
the plant and Larry put up a big fuss. The internet was a huge threat to GM.
They were afraid to death of it. In fact, they monitored it daily when the
list became public. Larry was threatening the same danger as the internet,
an owner's group sharing information, including PROBLEMS.

So, reluctantly, they took Larry's car to Bowling Green. Back then, C4's
actually went through the paint department where (some) parts were painted
on the car. The rest (most of them anyway) were affixed to the same rolling
dolly, and were painted at the same time. Any flaws had to be hand painted
later. Cars could not be run through the automatic paint line. Some of the
employees questioned why they were repairing the vehicle in the first place.
After all, they were assemblers, not repairmen. When they were finished
with it, they took it back and Larry again refused to accept their work.

So by this time he had pissed off anyone and everyone at GM. But that was
not enough. Larry then asked that the car be replaced completely.
I think it was the Lemon Law going around at the time. Larry got his way.
With the 90's now out of production, GM offered to swap him for a new
'91....but made him sign off on everything before they let him have it.

GM was pissed but on the other hand, the ZR owner's loved the idea of a
Registry and people were signing up by the droves. I think we had 300 or so
the first couple of years. But GM was looming in the background... and black
balled Larry Merow AND his Registry. They gave us nothing, they ignored us,
we were labeled as troublemakers. I don't want to stretch this idea too far,
but GM made the decision to terminate the ZR-1 back in the '91-'92
timeframe. I often wondered if GM's distaste had anything to do with that
decision.

It wasn't good with GM until we did the Thunder At Stillwater event. Lots of
the GM guys affiliated with the ZR-1 programs were there but anonymously.
But they must have liked what they saw and told a few of the big boys about
it because just about a year later, we asked for their help doing the Legend
Lives, last ZR-1 event, and they gave us a very much appreciated effort and
resources. They even did ZR-1 emblem candy bars....

More Registry stories to come....those were the days weren't they?

Excellent Smile j'adore ces récits de passionnés qui osent tout, genre "ils ne savaient pas que c'était impossible, alors ils l'ont fait".
